Our Year-Long Collaborative with Wellwood Middle School!

Thank you, Wellwood Middle School, for partnering with Rise Above Poverty this academic year. The large and enthusiastic student participation humbled us.

Thanks to Amy Sibert and Brooke Ebertsold (pictured), co-chairs of Wellwood's Character Ed program, and Lisa Baribeau (not pictured), a teacher at Wellwood and part of the Rise Above Poverty family, who made the collaboration happen!

The teamwork, dedication, and generosity of Wellwood Middle School will ease some of the challenges faced by students in the Syracuse City School District.

Summer Reading Session

“Helping Students Read To Succeed”

The Rise Above Poverty Reading Clinic is a free reading program for third and fourth graders. If you know a student who could benefit from additional help with their reading, encourage their parents to register them in our program today.

The Summer program will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 - 6:30 pm.

Our mission is simple: "Help Students Read to Succeed". Our goal is to help struggling students become proficient and reading at grade level. We also want to help students develop a love of reading and have a greater desire to read on their own.

Our program provides:

One on one instruction

A curriculum tailored to your child's individual needs

Clean, safe, and quiet classes conducive for learning

Will You Help Us With A Specific Request!

Personal hygiene items play a major role in the maintenance of health, well-being and dignity. Some items often overlooked are hair and skin care products, specifically for African Americans. Not all hair and skin care products meet the unique needs of the African American Community and many social workers and case managers, in our schools, find it difficult to provide these necessary items to these students due to the small portion of hair-care products made for this demographic.

To mitigate these challenges, RISE ABOVE POVERTY is launching an effort to collect and give out shampoo, specifically for African American hair. All products donated will be distributed to African American students we serve in the Syracuse City School District.

So please donate to this worthy cause. Your support makes it possible to eliminate humiliation, promote learning and offer hope to those students in need.

Thank you for your support!!
